Meeto vs Daily Prebuilt
Meeto vs Daily Prebuilt: embeddable video calls compared
Choose Daily Prebuilt if you need your own call interface, calls of up to 1,000 people or HIPAA: it bills per participant minute, 10,000 free a month, then $0.004 each. Choose Meeto for small calls without a server or a usage bill: its widget is free on every plan, up to 10 people (25 on Pro), and the Meeto badge always stays.
Meeto vs Daily Prebuilt: the facts side by side
| Question | Meeto | Daily Prebuilt |
|---|---|---|
| Free tier | The widget is free on every plan with no minute meter; on a Free account each call holds 10 people for 60 minutes | 10,000 participant minutes a month[1][2] |
| Pricing model | No usage billing. Pro at $6.99/month for the key owner raises calls to 25 people and removes the 60-minute limit for up to 2 calls at a time | Pay as you go: $0.004 per participant minute after the free minutes, no base subscription[3][4][5] |
| Ways to embed | Script tag, <meeto-room> Web Component, JavaScript, React, Vue and Angular packages, WordPress plugin; Meeto's own call screen with your accent colour and language | Prebuilt iframe through daily-js, or a headless call object for a fully custom call interface[6][7] |
| Backend needed | No: a public key (mk_live_…) locked to your domains creates instant or named rooms from the page; an optional secret key lets your server create rooms and choose the host | Yes for rooms or meeting tokens created through the REST API, whose key must stay out of the browser[8] |
| Remove vendor branding | Never: the “Powered by Meeto” badge stays on every plan | “Powered by Daily” can be hidden on paid usage[9] |
| Recording and transcription | No recording or transcription API for widget calls; cloud recording and AI summary are Pro features started by a host signed in to Meeto | Cloud recording $0.01349 per recorded minute plus storage; realtime transcription $0.0059 per unmuted participant minute[10][11] |
| Largest call | 10 people on a Free key owner's account, 25 on Pro | 1,000 with cameras on[12] |
| Mobile SDKs | iOS (Swift Package) and Android (JitPack) SDKs that show the same widget in a WebView; no React Native or Flutter package | Native iOS and Android SDKs plus React Native and Flutter (for custom call screens; Prebuilt is web)[13] |
| Hosting and compliance | Media servers in Europe and South-East Asia, nearest region per room; no HIPAA offering | AWS regions worldwide with rooms that can be pinned to a region; HIPAA with a BAA as a $500/month add-on[14][15] |
Prices are in USD for monthly billing unless a row says otherwise. Plans change: each Daily Prebuilt figure links to the page it came from, so you can check it before you decide.
Should you choose Meeto or Daily Prebuilt?
Choose Meeto if
- You want a call button or an inline call on your site today, from a snippet, without a server.
- Your calls are small (support, sales, consultations) and you want a flat cost instead of a per-minute bill.
- A visible “Powered by Meeto” badge is acceptable to you.
- You use WordPress, or want the same widget in iOS and Android apps without building a call screen.
Choose Daily Prebuilt if
- You need your own call interface, built on Daily's call object.
- Calls can exceed 25 people, or you need recording and transcription through an API.
- You need HIPAA with a BAA, or calls without vendor branding.
What do 10,000 participant minutes cover?
Daily counts a participant minute for each person in a call, each minute. Two people talking for half an hour use 60 minutes; four people in a one-hour call use 240. Daily's free 10,000 minutes a month therefore cover about 166 half-hour calls between two people, or 41 one-hour calls of four. Past the allowance, a one-hour call between two people costs $0.48 at the list price.
Meeto does not meter the widget. There is no monthly allowance to run out of: on a Free Meeto account each widget call is limited to 10 people and 60 minutes; on Pro ($6.99 a month for the key owner) calls hold 25 people with no 60-minute limit for up to 2 calls at a time. What that flat price does not buy: a custom interface, large rooms, a recording API or removing the badge.
Try both before you commit: the widget playground runs a live Meeto call on this site, and the JavaScript SDK guide shows the events your page can listen to.
What Meeto does not do
Meeto is built for small meetings that start from a link, a booking page or a website button. Paid plans hold up to 25 participants, and Meeto does not offer:
- End-to-end encryption
- Webinars or livestreaming
- Breakout rooms
- Polls
- Phone dial-in
- SSO / SAML single sign-on
- Live captions over the call video
If any of these is a requirement, test it in Daily Prebuilt or another tool first. The full Meeto limits are on the pricing page and the security overview.

Frequently asked questions
Is Daily free?
Daily gives every account 10,000 free participant minutes a month; after that each participant minute costs $0.004, with no hard cap. Meeto's widget has no minute allowance to run out of: limits apply per call instead.
Can I build my own call interface with Meeto?
No. Meeto embeds its own call screen, which you can tint with an accent colour, set to a language and control through events and commands (join, leave, microphone, camera). For your own video tiles and layout, Daily's call object is built for that.
Do I need a server to embed Meeto or Daily?
Meeto works from the page alone: the public key is locked to the domains you register. A server is only needed if you want to create rooms in advance or decide who becomes the host. Daily asks you to keep its REST API key on a server for rooms and tokens created through the API.
Which one handles bigger calls?
Daily: its docs describe calls of up to 1,000 participants with cameras on. Meeto widget calls hold up to 25 people on Pro, so it suits support, sales and consultation calls rather than events.
