Should you choose Meeto or Jitsi Meet (meet.jit.si)?

Choose Meeto if

  • You run regular client or team calls and do not want a monthly end-point count to decide whether they continue.
  • Only you, as the host, should be able to mute or remove people, let them in or require a password.
  • You want cloud recording, a transcript and an AI summary in the same place as the meeting, on a $6.99 plan.
  • Clients should book a time on your booking page and get a meeting link, with nothing to install.

Choose Jitsi Meet (meet.jit.si) if

  • You need end-to-end encryption, or want to run the video service on your own server.
  • You want open-source software you can inspect and change.
  • Your meetings are occasional, fit in 95 minutes and stay within the free end-point allowance.
  • Your calls have more than 25 people.

How do you move a regular Jitsi call to Meeto?

A weekly call that used one meet.jit.si room can move to one Meeto link that stays the same every week. It takes a few minutes, and nobody else needs an account.

  1. Create a free account and schedule the meeting with a repeat rule: daily, every weekday, weekly, every two weeks, monthly or a custom rule, with or without an end date.
  2. Add the guests by email. They get an invitation with the link, can answer whether they will come, and get a reminder email before each meeting (15 minutes, 1 hour or 1 day before; you pick up to two).
  3. Choose how people enter. Leave the room open, make guests knock so you let them in, or set a password. Unlike meet.jit.si, only you and the co-hosts you appoint can mute or remove people.
  4. Check the length and size. On Free each call stops at 60 minutes with up to 10 people. If your call runs longer, Pro removes the time limit for up to 25 people.

If what you valued in Jitsi was end-to-end encryption or self-hosting, Meeto is not a replacement: it offers neither. The video meeting privacy guide explains what to check in any tool.

What Meeto does not do

Meeto is built for small meetings that start from a link, a booking page or a website button. Paid plans hold up to 25 participants, and Meeto does not offer:

  • End-to-end encryption
  • Webinars or livestreaming
  • Breakout rooms
  • Polls
  • Phone dial-in
  • SSO / SAML single sign-on
  • Live captions over the call video

If any of these is a requirement, test it in Jitsi Meet (meet.jit.si) or another tool first. The full Meeto limits are on the pricing page and the security overview.

Frequently asked questions

Does Jitsi Meet have a time limit?

Yes, since October 9, 2026: Jitsi announced that meetings on meet.jit.si are limited to 95 minutes. The announcement is about meet.jit.si and does not mention Jitsi servers that people run themselves. Meeto's free plan stops a call at 60 minutes, and Meeto Pro has no time limit for $6.99 a month.

Is meet.jit.si still free?

Yes, but with limits. Besides the meeting length, its terms limit free use to 25 active end points per calendar month across your accounts, and 8x8 may limit use beyond that or ask you to move to a paid service. Whoever creates the room has to sign in.

What is an active end point on meet.jit.si?

The terms define an end point as a unique point of access, such as a browser tab, laptop or mobile device. It is active when it joins a meeting that at least one other end point is also in. The terms do not publish more detail on how the monthly count is made.

Is Jitsi more private than Meeto?

Jitsi offers optional end-to-end encryption in supporting browsers, and you can host it yourself. Meeto is not end-to-end encrypted: media is encrypted in transit and runs through Meeto's media servers, which is what makes recording and AI summaries possible. Meeting content is not used to train AI models, and chat is deleted when the meeting ends.
