Meeto vs Whereby Embedded

Meeto vs Whereby Embedded: video calls for your website

Choose Whereby Embedded for a custom React interface, custom branding or EU-stored account data: 2,000 free minutes a month (30-minute meetings), then $10.99 a month plus $0.0042 a minute. Choose Meeto for small calls without a server or a usage bill: its widget is free on every plan, up to 10 people (25 on Pro), and the Meeto badge always stays.

Should you choose Meeto or Whereby Embedded?

Choose Meeto if

  • You want a working call on your site from a snippet, with no server and no usage bill.
  • Free test calls must run past 30 minutes: Meeto's free calls last 60.
  • A WordPress plugin or the same widget in iOS and Android apps would save you work.
  • The “Powered by Meeto” badge is acceptable on your pages.

Choose Whereby Embedded if

  • You want your own call interface built with React, not a prebuilt screen.
  • Calls can exceed 25 people, or you need recording and transcription billed per minute.
  • You need custom branding, EU-stored account data or HIPAA compliance.

Prebuilt call screen or your own interface?

This is the main fork in the decision. Whereby Embedded offers both paths: the <whereby-embed> web component drops in Whereby's prebuilt room, and the React Browser SDK lets you build the whole call experience yourself, tiles and toolbar included.

Meeto offers only the first path. The widget embeds Meeto's finished call screen (lobby, grid, screen sharing with drawing, chat and reactions) and lets you set:

  • inline in your own container or a floating call button, and its corner;
  • an accent colour and the interface language (42 languages, browser language by default);
  • a named room such as support, so every visitor lands in the same call;
  • events your page can react to (ready, joined, left, participant count, errors) and commands it can send (join, leave, microphone, camera).

If those controls are enough, Meeto gets you live with less code and no per-minute cost; see the developer documentation. If the call has to look and behave like your own product, Whereby's Browser SDK is the better fit.

What Meeto does not do

Meeto is built for small meetings that start from a link, a booking page or a website button. Paid plans hold up to 25 participants, and Meeto does not offer:

  • End-to-end encryption
  • Webinars or livestreaming
  • Breakout rooms
  • Polls
  • Phone dial-in
  • SSO / SAML single sign-on
  • Live captions over the call video

If any of these is a requirement, test it in Whereby Embedded or another tool first. The full Meeto limits are on the pricing page and the security overview.

Frequently asked questions

Is Whereby Embedded free?

Its Explore plan is free for up to 2,000 participant minutes a month, with meetings capped at 30 minutes and limited white labelling. Meeto's widget is free on every plan; on a Free Meeto account a call lasts up to 60 minutes.

Is this the same as Whereby's meeting app?

No. Whereby Embedded is Whereby's developer product for putting video into your own site or app. Whereby's meeting app for hosts and guests is compared with Meeto on a separate page.

Can I remove the Meeto badge?

No. The “Powered by Meeto” badge stays on every plan, Pro and Team included. Whereby lists custom branding on its paid Build plan, which is the better choice if the call must look entirely like your product.

Can I build my own video layout with Meeto?

No: Meeto embeds its own call screen. You choose inline or a floating button, the accent colour, the language and a named room, and your page reacts to events. For your own tiles and toolbar, Whereby's React Browser SDK is built for that.
