Direct calls

Call your contacts directly, like a phone call

Meeto lets you add people as contacts and call them with one tap, by voice or video, without creating a meeting or sending a link. The call rings on their phone, tablet or computer: in the browser, in the Android app, and on iPhone on the native incoming call screen even when the app is closed. Any Meeto account can call, the Free plan included.

How do you add someone as a contact?

Find them by name or email and send a request, or share an invite link. Calls work once both sides are contacts.

Search

Type their meeto.me page name or exact email under Add a contact and send a request. They accept it under Incoming requests; if you both send a request, it is accepted automatically.

Invite link or QR code

Share a personal link or show its QR code. Whoever opens it becomes your contact right away. Each link works once and lasts 72 hours.

Remove or block

Remove a contact to stop calls between you, or block someone so they cannot send you requests or call you. You can unblock them later.

Someone without an account can open your invite link, type a name and keep you as a contact; calls unlock for them after they sign up with Apple or Google.

How do you make a direct call?

  1. Open Contacts in your account at meeto.me/app or in the iPhone or Android app.
  2. Press Voice call or Video call next to the person. A voice call opens with the camera off; either side can turn it on later.
  3. Wait while it rings. You see Calling… with a countdown and hear a ringback tone. The call rings for 40 seconds.
  4. Talk, or see what happened. When they answer, you are both in the call. Otherwise you see Call declined, No answer, or that they are on another call.

Need a third person? Inside the call, open Add people and choose Call a contact to ring someone else into the same call, one invite at a time. You can also send the meeting link to someone who is not a contact. For a call at a set time, schedule a meeting with a contact instead and use reminders.

How does an incoming call ring on each device?

It rings on every device where the person is signed in, and the first device to answer takes the call; the others stop ringing.

Incoming direct calls by platform
WhereHow the call arrives
iPhone appThe native iPhone incoming call screen, even when the app is closed or the phone is locked. A video call asks you to unlock first
Android appA high-priority call notification with sound and vibration; the app's own incoming call screen when it is open
BrowserAn Incoming call banner with a ringtone and Accept or Decline while your Meeto account is open, plus a browser notification if you turned notifications on

To receive calls in the browser with the tab closed, turn on browser notifications when Meeto asks. For phones, install the app from the download page.

Frequently asked questions

Are direct calls free?

Yes. Any Meeto account can add contacts and call them, on the Free plan too. A call started by a Free account stops after 60 minutes, like any Free call with two people; a Pro caller has no time limit.

Can I call someone who has no Meeto account?

No. Direct calls ring Meeto accounts that have accepted each other as contacts. For anyone else, send a meeting link: they join from a browser without an account.

Does Meeto keep a call history or show missed calls?

No. A call that nobody answers simply ends as No answer for the caller. Meeto does not show a list of past or missed direct calls.

Can I call a phone number?

No. Meeto has no phone dial-in or calls to phone numbers; direct calls run between Meeto accounts over the internet.

Are direct calls encrypted?

Calls are encrypted in transit (WebRTC (DTLS-SRTP) encryption in transit) and run through Meeto's media servers, also for one-to-one calls. They are not end-to-end encrypted.
