Meeto vs Otter.ai
Meeto vs Otter.ai: built-in AI notes or a note-taker
Choose Otter.ai if your meetings stay on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams: it transcribes them as a note-taker, free for 300 minutes a month, Pro $16.99/month. Choose Meeto if you also want the meeting itself: its AI summary is built into Meeto's own calls, no bot joins, on Pro at $6.99 a month with 10 hours included.
Meeto vs Otter.ai: the facts side by side
| Question | Meeto | Otter.ai |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | No AI summary or recording; free calls hold 10 people for 60 minutes | 300 transcription minutes a month, up to 30 minutes per conversation[1][2][3] |
| Cheapest paid plan | Pro: $6.99/month or $69/year, video meetings included, 10 hours of AI summary a month | Pro: $16.99/user/month billed monthly, on top of the meeting tool you use[4][5] |
| Hosts its own video calls | Yes: browser calls and iOS and Android apps | No; it records calls held on other platforms[6] |
| How it captures a meeting | The host turns on AI summary inside the Meeto call; no extra participant joins, and everyone sees an indicator and a notice | Otter Notetaker joins the call as a participant; a Mac or Windows app records without a bot[7] |
| Meeting apps it works with | Meeto calls only; no bot for Zoom, Google Meet or Teams | Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet; the desktop app also covers Slack Huddles and in-person[8] |
| Transcription languages | Detected for each speaker, so mixed-language meetings work; the summary is written in the meeting's main language | 6 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese[9] |
| AI summary | Summary, key points, decisions, action items and a transcript with speaker names; export as Markdown, plain text, PDF summary | Summaries with action items and outlines, on every plan including the free one[10] |
| Video recording | Pro and Team: MP4 plus separate audio, media kept 90 days; transcript and summary kept until you delete them | Video replay for Zoom and Google Meet on Enterprise; other plans play back audio[11] |
| AI training on your meetings | Meeting content is not used to train AI models | Otter trains its own models on de-identified user data[12] |
Prices are in USD for monthly billing unless a row says otherwise. Plans change: each Otter.ai figure links to the page it came from, so you can check it before you decide.
Should you choose Meeto or Otter.ai?
Choose Meeto if
- You are choosing where to hold the meetings, not only how to take notes on them.
- Guests should join from a link in the browser, and nobody extra should appear in the participant list.
- Your meetings mix languages: Meeto detects the language for each speaker.
- You want the call, the booking page and the notes for $6.99 a month in one account.
Choose Otter.ai if
- Your meetings happen on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams and will stay there.
- You want free transcripts: Otter's free plan transcribes 300 minutes a month, Meeto's free plan none.
- You also need notes from in-person conversations and Slack huddles.
Which languages can each one transcribe?
Otter lists six transcription languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese. If your meetings run in another language, Otter is not an option for them.
Meeto detects the language for each speaker, so a call where one person speaks Spanish and another English is transcribed as spoken. The summary is written in the meeting's main language. The Meeto interface itself comes in 42 languages, which matters for guests who join from a link.
To check your own language, run a short test call on Meeto Pro, turn on the AI summary and read the transcript before you rely on it. Names, numbers and product terms are where any transcription goes wrong first.
What Meeto does not do
Meeto is built for small meetings that start from a link, a booking page or a website button. Paid plans hold up to 25 participants, and Meeto does not offer:
- End-to-end encryption
- Webinars or livestreaming
- Breakout rooms
- Polls
- Phone dial-in
- SSO / SAML single sign-on
- Live captions over the call video
If any of these is a requirement, test it in Otter.ai or another tool first. The full Meeto limits are on the pricing page and the security overview.

Frequently asked questions
Can Otter.ai take notes in a Meeto call?
Otter's notetaker joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet; Meeto is not on that list and has no Otter integration. Otter also has a desktop app that records without a bot. Inside Meeto calls you do not need either: Meeto's own AI summary runs on the Pro and Team plans.
Is Otter.ai free?
Yes. Otter's free Basic plan transcribes 300 minutes a month, up to 30 minutes per conversation. Meeto's free plan has no AI summary at all; it starts on Pro at $6.99 a month.
Does Meeto's AI summary work in Zoom, Google Meet or Teams?
No. Meeto has no bot for other platforms: the AI summary runs only in calls held on Meeto, in the browser or the Meeto apps. If your meetings stay on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams, a note-taker such as Otter is the better fit.
What happens after Meeto's 10 hours a month?
Meeto still produces a full transcript and a basic summary for each meeting until the allowance renews next month. The allowance is 10 hours a month on Pro and on each paid Team seat.
