Google Meet time limit
The Google Meet time limit: 60 minutes, 24 hours and how to extend
With a free personal Google Account, Google Meet calls with 3 or more people end at 60 minutes, after a warning at 50; one-on-one calls can last up to 24 hours on a computer. Only the host can extend a meeting, by upgrading their Google account. Google Workspace Business Starter allows 24-hour meetings from $8.40 per user a month.
What is the Google Meet time limit?
It depends on how many people are in the call. On a computer, with a personal Google Account and no subscription[1], Google lets you host:
- Meetings with 3 or more participants for up to 60 minutes[2].
- One-on-one meetings for up to 24 hours[3].
A free meeting holds up to 100 participants[4]. Creating a meeting needs a Google Account[5]; guests can join without one, but the organizer or a participant has to let them in[6].
What happens at 50 and 60 minutes?
In a group meeting, everyone hears a chime and sees a message at 50 minutes saying the meeting is about to end[7]. To keep going, the host can upgrade their Google account; otherwise the meeting ends at 60 minutes[8].
Because only the host can extend it, the limit follows the host's account. If one of the participants has a paid Google plan, the simplest fix is for that person to create the meeting next time.
How can you meet for longer on Google Meet?
- Keep the call to two people. A one-on-one meeting can run up to 24 hours on a free account, which covers most long calls between two people.
- Upgrade the host. Google Workspace Business Starter costs $8.40 per user a month on the flexible plan[9] and allows meetings of up to 24 hours[10]. Recording starts with Business Standard, not Starter[11].
- Use another tool for long group calls. Jitsi Meet allows 95 minutes per meeting[12], and Brave Talk has no time limit for small calls[13]. The table below lists the rest.
Meeto, which publishes this guide, is another option with the same free hour: 60 minutes once 2 or more people are in the call, one-on-one calls included, for up to 10 people. Unlike Google Meet, nobody needs an account for an instant meeting, and guests are let in directly unless the host turns on knock-to-enter or a password. Meeto Pro removes the time limit for $6.99 a month, for up to 25 people. See what Meeto's free plan includes.

Frequently asked questions
How long can a free Google Meet call last?
On a personal Google Account without a subscription, a meeting with 3 or more participants can last up to 60 minutes, and a one-on-one meeting up to 24 hours. Google gives these limits for hosting on a computer.
Does it matter who starts the meeting?
Yes. Google's help page says the host can extend the meeting by upgrading their Google account, so the limit depends on the host's account. If someone in the group has a paid Google plan, let that person create the meeting.
Is there a warning before a Google Meet call ends?
Yes. In a group meeting on a free account everyone hears a chime and sees a message at 50 minutes; the meeting ends at 60 unless the host upgrades.
How many people can join a free Google Meet call?
Up to 100 on a personal Google Account. Guests without a Google Account can join, but someone in the meeting has to let them in.
Which free tools allow longer group calls than Google Meet?
Jitsi Meet allows 95 minutes per meeting on meet.jit.si, and Brave Talk has no time limit for up to 4 people. Microsoft Teams free, Zoho Meeting and Meeto match Google Meet's hour for groups.
