Share from a phone

How to share your screen from a phone

Join the call in the Meeto app for iPhone or Android, tap ⋯ and select Share. On iPhone, tap Start Broadcast in the sheet that opens; on Android, confirm the screen-capture prompt. Everyone then sees your phone screen until you select Stop sharing. Phone browsers cannot share a screen, but they can watch and draw on someone else's.

How do I share my phone screen in a Meeto call?

Use the Meeto app; it is free and does not need an account to join a meeting. The share button sits in the call's menu rather than on the main bar.

  1. Get the app. Phone browsers cannot share the screen, so install the free Meeto app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Join in the app. Tap the meeting link on your phone. Meeto links open in the app when it is installed; type your name and select Join meeting.
  3. Select Share. Tap ⋯ (More) and then the Share tile.
  4. Confirm the system prompt. The phone, not Meeto, asks for permission to capture the screen: on iPhone tap Start Broadcast in the iOS sheet, on Android confirm the system prompt (details below).
  5. Present. Leave Meeto and open what you want to show. Your screen appears on everyone's stage, and your own view says You're sharing your screen.
  6. Stop. Return to Meeto, tap ⋯ and select Stop sharing.

If the share does not start, Meeto shows Couldn't start screen sharing — try again. Cancelling the system prompt simply returns you to the call.

What is different on iPhone and Android?

Phone screen sharing in the Meeto apps
PhoneWhat happens
iPhoneiOS opens its screen broadcast sheet. Tap Start Broadcast; after a short countdown your whole screen is shared, including other apps you switch to. You can also stop from the iOS screen-recording indicator.
AndroidAndroid asks for permission to capture the screen. Depending on the Android version you may share the whole screen or a single app. Stop from the Meeto menu.
SoundOnly the picture is shared on both systems. The phone's sound, such as a video you play, is not sent.

Prepare the phone

Turn on Do Not Disturb, close private apps and decide in advance which apps you will open while sharing.

Pick the orientation

Hold the phone the way the content reads best: portrait for an app, landscape for a slide or a video.

Keep the app running

On iPhone the share continues while Meeto is in the background, but it ends with Screen sharing ended. if the app is closed.

Should I share from my phone or a computer?

Share from the phone when the thing to show lives on the phone: a mobile app you support or test, photos, a message thread or a map. Share from a computer for documents, slides and spreadsheets.

Phone or computer for screen sharing
Share fromBest for
Phone (app)Demonstrating a mobile app, walking someone through phone settings, showing photos. The whole phone screen is shared on iPhone.
Computer (browser)Documents and slides. You can share a single window or tab, and a presenter signed in with Pro or Team can share in up to 4K on capable computers outside Safari; otherwise shares go up to 1080p.

You can join the same meeting from both devices: present the app from the phone while you talk and watch from the computer. Mute the microphone and speakers on one of them to avoid echo, as described in how to fix echo in a video call.

Why is there no share button in my phone browser?

Screen capture in a web page depends on a browser feature that mobile Safari and mobile Chrome do not offer. Meeto checks for it and hides the share control when it is missing, rather than showing a button that cannot work. Everything else in the browser call works: camera, microphone, chat, reactions and drawing on others' shares.

On a computer, sharing works in the browser with no app. Follow how to share your screen for the desktop steps, including choosing a single window or tab.

Can I see and draw on a shared screen from my phone?

Yes, in both the app and the phone browser. When someone shares, their screen fills the stage with a label such as “Anna's screen”.

  • Zoom in. Pinch to enlarge small text and move around with your fingers. In the browser a double tap returns to the full view.
  • Draw. Tap the pencil at the top right of the share, labelled Draw on screen, or choose drawing from the ⋯ menu. Pick Pen, Arrow or a shape, and use Undo last to take back a mark.
  • Weak connection. If the picture lags, the share shows Weak connection — the picture will update; see how to fix a laggy video call.

Drawings are a live layer for the call; they do not change the presenter's files. Read more on screen sharing with annotations.

Frequently asked questions

Can I share my screen from a phone browser?

No. Mobile browsers on iPhone and Android do not let web pages capture the screen, so Meeto does not show a share button there. You can still join from the browser, watch someone else's shared screen and draw on it. To present from a phone, use the app.

Does sharing from a phone include sound?

No. Meeto shares the picture of your screen only, not the phone's audio. Your microphone stays as it was, so you can talk people through what they see.

Will notifications show while I share?

The others see everything on your screen while the share runs, including a notification that pops up. Turn on Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode before you start, and close private chats and banking apps.

Is sharing from a phone free?

Yes. Screen sharing is included on every plan. A free host's meeting holds up to 10 people and runs 60 minutes once two or more people are in it.
