Record a meeting
How to record a video meeting responsibly
Record a Meeto browser call when the team needs a replay, lesson or support handoff. Confirm the paid-host requirement, explain capture before it starts, review the result and keep the recording only as long as it is useful.
Record a browser meeting in five steps
- Check the plan. Recording is available to Pro or Team hosts. A guest can join without an account, but the host account owns the capture workflow.
- Explain the purpose. Tell participants what will be captured, why you need it, who will receive it and when you plan to delete it. Obtain the consent your meeting requires before starting.
- Start capture. Choose recording from the meeting controls and check for the visible recording indicator. Do not treat a missing indicator as proof that capture is active.
- Stop at the right point. End the recording when the useful material is complete. If a long capture approaches its deadline, use the extension control only when it is offered and the conversation still needs to continue.
- Review before sharing. Open the processed material in the owner account, check that it contains the intended section and share it only with people who should have access.
Keep the original browser call and recording workflows separate: a guest can join an ordinary call without an account, while recording is a paid-host feature. See the privacy guide before recording clients, students or interviews.

A short consent and access checklist
Before capture
Tell people the purpose, what will be saved, who can see it and how to ask questions. Check the laws and organisational rules that apply to your meeting.
During capture
Keep the visible indicator on and stop if the conversation changes to material that should not be recorded. Do not silently restart capture after a stop.
After capture
Review the result, restrict the share link and delete the recording when the stated purpose ends. A transcript or recap may need a separate deletion check.
Meeto provides capture controls; it does not decide whether a particular recording is lawful. Read the recording and consent terms and ask your organisation or legal adviser when the situation is unclear.
Frequently asked questions
Can I record a Meeto meeting on the Free plan?
No. Cloud recording requires a paid host. Pro and Team hosts can start an opt-in recording from the meeting controls; a normal Free browser call does not include Meeto cloud capture.
Do participants see when recording starts?
Yes. Recording is opt-in and Meeto shows a visible recording indicator while capture is active. The host is responsible for explaining the capture and obtaining any consent required by applicable law.
How long does Meeto keep a recording?
The current default recording retention is 90 days, and the owner can delete the recording sooner. Transcripts or AI recaps can have separate retention behavior, so review each material type before relying on deletion of the video alone.
What happens when a long recording reaches its capture deadline?
A recording starts with a 4-hour capture deadline. If it is still active during the final 10 minutes, the host can request one 4-hour extension when the control is offered.
